STUDENT GUIDANCE CLINIC

Prologue :

Education is a process of learning and transformation of a student. DMIHER is always dedicated to the holistic development of the learner. The internal and external challenges of our younger generation are to be resolved in order to empower them properly. Many times it is observed that they are under tremendous pressure that stems from various aspects like expectations about excelling academically, adjusting with the change in environment, family pressure, family problems, striking a balance between academics, extra-curricular activities, relationship issues, conflict in the values of the society at large and sometimes, psychological dysfunctioning. After the recognizing the need of the time for providing support and guidance to students of DMIHER, students guidance clinic, a psychological counseling unit is established.

Aims And Objectives:
  • To help students gain an insight into the origins and development of emotional difficulties, leading to an increased capacity to take rational control over feelings and actions.
  • To alter maladjusted behaviour.
  • To assist students to move in the direction of fulfilling their potential, or achieve an integration of conflicting elements within themselves.
  • To provide students with the skills, awareness and knowledge, which will enable them to confront social inadequacy
Committee:

The Student Guidance Clinic runs on all working days throughout notified time. The day to day work is carried out by the psychologists under supervision of the co-ordinator. However, Advisory committee is in place, presently under the chairmanship of Dr. S.S. Patel, Chief co-coordinator, DMIHER.

Arena Of Guidance And Counseling :

The range of problems addressed includes academic, adjustment issues, relationship issues, and personal and emotional issues. The purpose of guidance and counseling is that students can freely and confidentially express their academic, emotional and personal pressures and concerns to a professional who can help them effectively. The major objective of the counseling centre is to facilitate Academic, Emotional, Social and cognitive development of the students hence to empower them in their learning and personal development.

ACADEMIC COUNSELING :
Many students find the demands of coursework to be overwhelming or need guidance on a specific area related to their studies. Students who meet with an academic counselor learn concrete tools and strategies to deal with these struggles.

  • Poor grades
  • Exam stress /Test anxiety
  • Learning difficulties
  • Dissertation support
  • Study skills
  • Academic Suspension.
  • Yeardown and backlog
  • Study habits
  • Time management

PERSONAL / SOCIAL COUNSELING :
Personal counseling deals with emotional distress and behavioural difficulties, which arise when individuals struggle to deal with developmental stages and tasks. Any aspect of development can be turned into an adjustment problem, and it is inevitable that everyone encounters, at some time, exceptional difficulty in meeting an ordinary challenge.
For example :

  • Anxiety over a career decision
  • Lingering anger over an interpersonal conflict
  • Insecurities about getting older
  • Depressive feelings when bored with work
  • Excessive guilt about a serious mistake
  • A lack of assertion and confidence
  • Grief over the loss of a loved one
  • Disillusionment and loneliness after parents' divorce.
  • Facilitate students' total development (self-esteem, sense of purpose, problem-solving abilities, spirituality).
  • Facilitate positive communication between students, teachers, and parents.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
